COVID - 19 Restrictions and Guidelines.
CDC Guidelines for social distancing and group numbers will be in place at all events. Face Masks are recommended. Hand sanitizers will be available at different locations. This event is an optional recreational activity which you may choose to attend. If you are not feeling well, please stay home.

 

The Fire & Ice Winterfest is held each year over the first full weekend of February in the quaint resort town of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho (just over 2 hours North of Salt Lake City), famous for its natural spring-fed hot pools. Come, bring the family and celebrate winter!

Events for Friday, February 5, 2021

3:00 - 8:00 p.m.: WINE TASTING at the Riverside Inn

Start the weekend off with a sampling of Northwest wines and appetizers at the Riverside Inn, located on the banks of the Portneuf River (255 E. Portneuf Ave). 

COST: $35 per person includes commemorative wine glass, five wine tastings with paired appetizers. Register now for Fire and Ice Wine Tasting!

  • Must be 21 years or older to attend.
  • Please Note: Due to Covid restrictions, the Annual Fire & Ice Wine Tasting will have a new format. This years event will be held in "1 hour sessions" in order to abide to social distancing and will have a limited seated capacity of 24 people per session. No refunds will be issued.
  • Pre-registration is required for attendance. Register now for Fire and Ice Wine Tasting!
  • Check in 15 minutes prior to your tasting session on the lobby level of the Riverside Hot Springs Inn.
  • Pre-registration ends at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday. Check with the Riverside Inn on Friday for any open times to register for Wine Tasting. 208-776-5504

7:00 p.m.: CRAZY RELAY RACE down Mainstreet

Cost:  $25.00 for a four person team

 

7:30 p.m.: COSTUME PARADE down Main Street

 

Events for Saturday, February 6, 2021

8:00 - 11:00 a.m.: VETERAN'S BREAKFAST

Located at the Lava Senior Citizens Building

 

10:00 a.m. until close: An ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN will be wandering the Streets

There will be photo opportunities with him.

 

10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.:  DJ MUSIC, HOT DOG & S'MORES STAND

Located in the Chuck Wagon Garden.  

Cost: $5.00 for either and includes a drink

 

11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.: CHILDRENS' WATER CARNIVAL

Held at the Indoor Aquatic Center. There will be games, prizes and water fun.  12 and under are invited to attend this event.  This event will be held indoors at the Olympic Swimming Complex, Sponsored by the Lava Hot Springs Foundation.

COST: FREE for kids and MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT.

12:00 p.m. - 7:00 pm.: POLAR BEAR BEER GARDEN  

Located on the side yard of Ace Hardware.

Cost:  $8.00 includes 2 beers & a Koozie.

 

4:00 p.m.: The UNICYCLING UNICORN

Performing in the parking lot by the Olympic Pool.

 

1:30 p.m.: PREFLOAT PARTY

Located at the park along the Portneuf River.

2:00 p.m.: POLAR FLOAT PARADE on the Portneuf River

One of our zaniest events: the Polar Float Parade!  For those who dare: jump into the bone chilling Portneuf River, on a float tube, dressed in your craziest costume! All for a chance to win prizes and maybe international fame! In the past, we have seen wonderfully creative costumes, from the Easter Bunny to Santa Claus, to the infamous band KISS floating down the Portneuf. Do you dare jump in with the rest?

COST: $10.00 entry fee (includes tube rental). Register by 1:30 at Mountain Mayhem (156 E. Main) to sign a waiver and pick up your tube (Note: you will need to bring your ID to rent the tube). Each year we have more and more brave contestants signing up, so get registered early. Entries accepted until we run out of tubes! Check for pre-sale information on line.

LOCATION: Location:  Contestants entre the river at the Old Pancake House bridge (253 E. Portneuf Ave.) and float for ¼ mile to the Community building.

PRIZES: Prizes awarded to the best GROUP COSTUME (4 or more people) and to INDIVIDUALS. (Only those who pay entry fee are eligible for prizes.) Remember, it isn’t a race, it’s a zany costume contest floating parade! No hurry, just fun!

 

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: KIDS ACTIVITIES

Located at the Chuck Wagon Garden.  Games & Fun!

Cost: $5.00 for 20 tickets.   Hot Chocolate $1.00

 

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: CHILI TASTING

Located on the side yard of Ace Hardware.

Enter Fee for Chili Makers: $10.00. Tasting Fee: 5 Tastes for $5.00

5:00 p.m.: PENGUIN RACE on the Portneuf River

Penguins will be dropped into the Portneuf River off the 3rd Street East Bridge and rescued by the Community Center Building. 

COST: 1 penguin for $5, 5 penguins for $20. Penguins can be purchased at the different events in Lava Hot Springs.

PRIZES: The fastest penguins earn prizes!

 

DUSK: THE TORCH LIGHT PARADEL Mountain torchlight ski

At dusk (and weather permitting) there will befire in the sky. Watch local daredevils ski down the “L" mountains with lit torches. This is amazing to watch.

 

7:00 p.m.: FIRE PERFORMERS

Fire performers from Lava Flow Fire will entertain your family and you through dance, acrobatics and music as they manipulate flaming objects.  The show will be performed at the Chuck Wagon Garden

Cost:  $15.00 for front row seating, $10:00 for fire truck or military truck seating.

 

After the Fire Show: CROWNING OF THE KING & QUEEN at the Roof Top Bar

Fire & Ice Merchandise will be sold solely at the events and in the side yard of Ace Hardware.  Merchandise includes Hooded and zip up sweatshirts, long and short Sleeves Tees, Wine Glasses, Steins, Shot Glasses, Hats, Gloves and Koozies.
