The Fire & Ice Winterfest is held each year over the first full weekend of February in the quaint resort town of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho (just over 2 hours North of Salt Lake City), famous for its natural spring-fed hot pools. Come, bring the family and celebrate winter!

WINE TASTING — Friday, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
at the Riverside Inn

Start the weekend off with a sampling of Northwest wines and appetizers at the Riverside Inn, located on the banks of the Portneuf River (255 E. Portneuf Ave). 

COST: For $25, you'll enjoy red wines, white wines, and dessert wines, along with delicious appetizers. Included in the price is a Fire and Ice commemorative wine glass to take home!  [ PRE-REGISTER and SAVE ]

COST: The Bingo package costs $13.00 and includes 15 regular bingo games, and special games cost $2.00 per game. Total cost for all the games is $21.00. Chili will be served during Saturday night bingo, the cost per bowl will be $2.50.

COMEDY NIGHT — Friday,  8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. at the Greystone Manor

Tickle your funnybone with the hilarious Utah comedian Craig Bielik and a surprise guest! Craig's a comic, a cowboy, a flack, a funny guy, and he can play a mean set of skins! Bring a date and enjoy the show at the Greystone Manor (187 S. 2nd W.). 

TIMES: This year we will have two performances—one at 8:00 p.m. and one 10:00 p.m.

COST: For only $10 you can enjoy an evening full of laughter and fun. Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase.

Bish’s RV of Pocatello will serve free Hot Chocolate during the events Saturday & Sunday.

SUB ZERO SUPERHERO ENDURANCE SWIM— 9-11 a.m. at the Lava Hot Springs Indoor Aquatic Center/Olympic Swimming Complex

Think of this like a community fun run…but, swimming!  Anyone can participate, but we recommend you possess the ability to swim strongly. Heroic efforts and costumes will be admired.  Such costumes and efforts will be given prizes both literal and figurative in nature.

COST: Pre-registration $15 (call 208-251-5230) – guarantees event T-shirt. Pre-register by January 31st.  Day of “Deck” registration $20 (probably includes T-shirt, but sizing cannot be guaranteed).

WATER CARNIVAL — Saturday, 11 a.m. at the Indoor Aquatic Center

Bring the whole family to the annual FREE Water Carnival, sponsored by the Lava Hot Springs Foundation. Every 15 minutes there will be events such as float relays, wall climb races, diving contests, and a splash event. This event will be held indoors at the Olympic Swimming Complex, 195 N. Center.

LAVA'S 100th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION KICKOFF— Saturday 1 p.m. at the Lava Community Building

Sing Happy Birthday to Lava Hot Springs and kick off our 100th birthday celebration by releasing 100 balloons. This will take place at the Lava Community Building (150 N. Center) polarbear float race

POLAR FLOAT PARADE— Saturday 2 p.m. on the Portneuf River

One of our zaniest events: the Polar Float Parade!  For those who dare to jump into the bone chilling Portneuf River, on a float tube, dressed in your craziest costume! All for a chance to win prizes and maybe international fame! In the past, we have seen wonderfully creative costumes, from the Easter Bunny to Santa Claus, to the infamous band KISS floating down the Portneuf. Do you dare jump in with the rest?

COST: $10 entry fee (includes tube rental). Register at Mountain Mayhem (156 E. Main) sign a waiver and pick up your tube. Each year we have more and more brave contestants signing up, so get registered early. Entries accepted until we run out of tubes! Please pick up your tubes a few minutes early (before 2 p.m.) and avoid the rush to the starting point.

LOCATION: Contestants enter the river at the Old Pancake House bridge (253 E. Portneuf Ave.) and float for 1/4 mile to the Community building. After the parade all Polar Float participants are invited to warm up in the hot pools at Lava Hot Springs Inn.

PRIZES: Prizes awarded to the best GROUP COSTUME (4 or more people) and to INDIVIDUALS. (Only those who pay entry fee are eligible for prizes.)

Remember, it isn’t a race, it’s a zany costume contest floating parade! No hurry, just fun!

chile tasting at Fire and Ice WinterfestCHILI & BREAD TASTING— Saturday 3:30 - 5:30  p.m. at the Lava Community Building

Bring your taste buds to the Lava Community Building (150 N. Center) to try some hot chili samples and bread made by locals, as well as imports. For those entering chili, there will be a chance to earn prizes. Contestants should have their entries to the Lava Community Building by 2:00 p.m.

Taste sampling begins at 3:30 p.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. or when the chili runs out. 

COST: $5 for adults; Children ages 11 and under are $3. Taste several hot chili samples and vote on your favorites!  For those who enter chili (5 quarts recommended), admission is free. (Contestants should bring entries in no later than 2:00 p.m.)

PRIZES: For those entering Chili, there will be a chance to earn cash prizes.

L Mountain torchlight ski

FIRE PERFORMERS and THE TORCH LIGHT PARADE — Saturday 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Main Street

Fire performers from Lava Flow Fire will entertain your family through four different variations of spinning fire (staff, poi, dart and hoop) and music at the square across the street from Chuck Wagon.  This will be great free entertainment for the whole family so bring the kids and enjoy the show!

Fire will also be on L Mountain, if snow permits, as our daredevil skiers go down the mountain with torches! Chinese Lanterns will be available for purchase at the Merchant Hut Friday and Saturday and will be released after the daredevils complete their ski down the mountain, weather permitting.

Registration for Running of the Bulls: 8:00 to 10:30 at the Community Center on Sunday morning.

AMERICAN LEGION BREAKFAST— Sunday, 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Lava Community Center

The American Legion crew will be cooking their famous breakfast.

COST: $5 at the door. Breakfast free for participants registered for the Running of the Bulls, event scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

RUBBER PENGUIN RACE — Sunday, 10:00 a.m. on the Portneuf River

Drop your Penguin in the Portneuf River—the starting line is at the Old Pancake House Bridge. 

COST: $5 for 1 penguin, $20 for 5 penguins. Penguins can be purchased at our Merchandise Hut at 202 E. Main St. or from the Walking Penguins you'll see around Lava Hot Springs.

PRIZES: The fastest penguins earn prizes!

RUNNING OF THE BULLS — Sunday at 11:00 down Main Street

The festival concludes with the Running of the Bulls (no entry cost).  The zany gets zanier as you soak and run from pool to pool.  Run down Main Street in just a swim suit and flip flops in the middle of winter, In Idaho. We dare you! Soak in the Lava Hot Springs Inn Hot pools and then head over to the starting line is at the Silver Grille for adults and the Chuck Wagon Restaurant for the younger racers.  The finish line is at Lava's World Famous Hot Pools, participants receive free admission to the Idaho State Hot Pools.  Register for Running of the Bulls at the community center Sunday between 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.; the American Legion’s breakfast is free.

COST: None.
